Ascarin

Ascarin, also known as the Saint of Blood, was a prominent prodigy of Somatomancy and a member of the Priests of the Shifting Flesh. He was sent to join the Dark Heroes as a representative of the Priests' interests.

Ascarin Brimson was born the son of a farmer in Greenfield, and in his youth he began to study Biomancy under the town's doctor. When he turned 17, he had become a well-known and reputable healer throughout not only Greenfield, but also the surrounding region. After people from Nokkville and the City of Corgath began to pass through Greenfield for treatment, Ascarin made the decision to leave his family behind and travel to the capital city where he could heal more people.

Ascarin was a compassionate soul and dedicated to improving the health and quality of life for everyone he met. His heart broke whenever he found someone who was sick beyond his magic, and he constantly found himself wishing for a way to overcome the unwellness. In his spare time, he began to conduct research, accessing the Altum Archive's expansive records for information on stronger, rarer magic.

Ascarin's search brought him to a kind but strange man named Cefaclor. Cefaclor praised Ascarin's pursuit of greater health and the betterment of life for all people. He intrigued Ascarin by explaining that there was no alternative arcane path better suited for healing than biomancy. But it was the way biomancy was being used that limited it from conquering all forms of diseases and infirmities. Ascarin was brought into the secret circle of Cefaclor's "fellow doctors"--a chapter of the Priests of the Shifting Flesh. As Cefaclor was shadowed by Ascarin, the young man was exposed, little by little, to the intense regeneration and unnatural healing that Somatomancy granted. Over the next several years, Ascarin became a somatomancer under the premise that by spreading somatomancy across Legere, all people could evolve beyond the diseases and maladies that plagued them now.

As Ascarin's devotion to the Priests grew, so did his extremism. While he first was motivated by overcoming the seemingly intangible force of disease, he quickly found himself at odds with the Bureau of Classified Arcana. Ascarin interpreted them as nothing more than a barrier on the path to immortality. He became more and more hateful to the Bureau, and began to lead his chapter in extremist movements against their agents across Corgathian lands. He quickly rose to become one of the Bureau's most wanted mages, and even began to attract the attention of the Arcane Hand with his attacks. His identity was a mystery, and was referred to by the Bureau as the Saint of Blood.

With both personnel from the Hand and BCA agents hot on Ascarin's trail, he and his chapter had to cease activity as they planned to relocate themselves. While preparing their move, Ascarin was found by the Dark Mage Zak. Zak explained that he was forming a group of champions who would pioneer the way to a greater future. He believed that Ascarin would be an ideal addition to the team with his powerful desire to reshape Legere. Within the company of the Dark Heroes, Ascarin would certainly get the chance.
